Do I close the lid on my gas grill when grilling a steak or do I leave it open while grilling?

Would a bottle of pina coladas work as well?
For me it depends on how thick the steaks are. If thin I leave the lid open because they cook so fast.
And if you use spray bottle of Brandy to control flare ups you will soon have no eyebrows.
