can you make ice cream by putting it in the freezer instead of using an ice cream machine?

I wanted to make ice cream, but don’t have an ice cream maker. Is it possible to just keep it over night in the fridge, or does this not have the same effect?

Not really. Youll basically end up with a block of frozen cream that will be extremely hard to scoop and eat. Unless you take the mix out every fifteen minutes and stir it up. This will prevent large ice crystals from forming and keep the texture smoother. After about 2 hours of beating every fifteen minutes, you can leave it to sit over night and it will turn out pretty well. However, the longer you keeep beating it, say for 4 hours instead of two, the smoother and better the ice cream will turn out.

Alternately, if you can get a hold of it, whisking small chunks of dry ice into the mix until it is soft set will work too.
