Is there a method to determine how much liquid propane is left in a tank before it runs out?

This would be on a gas barbecue grill.

On the collar of the cylinder will be a marking that says TW##.
This is the “tare weight” of the cylinder, or the weight of the cylinder with nothing in it. Weigh the cylinder on a bathroom scale and deduct that number from the measured weight and that is how many lbs of propane you have left.

If the marking is T## you have a metric marking cylinder. Multiply that number times 2.2 to convert it to pounds.

This is the only accurate way of telling what is actually in the cylinder…
